No "New Years Resolutions" from The Cafe but we do have 10 things on our 2025 Wish List.
It would be an understatement to say things look a lot brighter now than in 2020. We dodged a bullet, literally and figuratively (pun intended), and although we have much to be thankful for (take a bow Judge Thomas & Judge Benitez) we must continue to be vigilant in defense of our 2nd Amendment rights.
We are in a never-ending battle with anti-gun politicians and activists dead-set on gutting of our Second Amendment rights. In no particular order here are 10 items on our 2A Cafe Wish List for 2025 that we would really like to see addressed with a vengeance.
Concealed Carry Reciprocity becomes the law of the land. If you hold a concealed carry permit you should have to freedom to carry in ALL 50 states. Reciprocity means that one's concealed carry permit or license is valid beyond the issuing state's borders. Your 2A rights should not end at a state line. We currently have 26 Constitutional Carry states. Those are rookie numbers.
Elimination of all state imposed "gun rosters". California owns a couple of spots on this list starting with the dreaded "Roster" of guns the state deems safe to own. Somehow non-gun politicians seem to always know what's best for the rest of us. I think not.
Get the "Assault Weapon" ban to SCOTUS already. Please, get this to the Supreme Court so we can put this folly to rest once and for all.
Repeal and strike-down unconstitutional punitive taxes and fees aimed at gun owners. California's 11% "fee" on all firearm related purchases as well as a background check "fee" for ammo purchases is thinly veiled vindictive attempt to punish lawful, legal gun owners in the state and a blatant money grab to bolster the sagging budget.
Make suppressors legal in California. All of our ears would greatly appreciate this.
Mandatory prison sentences for crimes committed with a gun and felony possession of a firearm. It's pure hypocrisy to rant about crimes that end in gun violence but not punish the criminals that perpetrate them in the first place. Stop prosecutors from pleading down gun charges to pad their conviction stats.
Fully fund the NICS database and provide the funds necessary to bring the federal background check system into the 21st Century. This is really a no-brainer. If I can apply for a $500,000 jumbo home loan online and get an answer in less that 2 minutes surely 10 minutes for a background check is more than possible. Fund additional manpower needed at the local law enforcement level to update the data as diligently as a credit score company. Hire a tech company to revamp the system or build a modern one from scratch. There seems to be no shortage of tech powerhouses that are concerned about gun violence that could do this in their sleep AND insure a secure system that wouldn't be abused (Hey, Apple?). Want to put a dent in gun crime? Make the existing system work like its supposed to. And if you're worried about the cost, rest easy. We've sent $175 Billion to Ukraine. I think we should be able to squeeze out $500 Million for the safety of our own citizens without trampling on their rights
End "Gun Free Zones" on our school campuses. We protect everything of value in our country with armed people EXCEPT for our children. Allow QUALIFIED teachers and staff to carry concealed if they choose to.
Make psychiatric records and psychotropic drug prescriptions to be included in the NICS database. HIPAA laws be damned. If the question is asked on a federal gun background check form law enforcement should have the ability to confirm the answer. And one can only hope...
Abolish the ATF. Innocent, law abiding gun owners and their dogs should not be subjected to political witch hunts by an agency that has consistently overstepped it's authority.
