FREEDOM BEAN of the day: ZSR

We're all still scrambling of affordable Freedom Beans. Here's some info on some of the lesser known brands you may find.

ZSR 9mm Luger

Country of Origin; Turkey

Everyone is in search of affordable ammo. Needless to say It’s been a pretty trying couple of years.

As we’re all aware the “pandemic” has done a number on ammo supplies. Factory shutdowns then measured restarts. An unprecedented rise of new shooters caused by an explosion of crime and social unrest. Anti-gun government pressures. Experienced shooters topping off their stocks (who can blame us). All have put unprecedented pressures on ammo manufacturing worldwide. Hats off to all ammo manufacturers that kept level heads with smart business practices and the patient understanding of the gun community to keep the industry strong.

It’s awesome to score a 1000 rounds of something at a reasonable price these days, but it’s equally awesome to have confidence that your gun won’t blow up when you shoot it.

Retailers have been sourcing quality product from all over the planet to keep up with demand which can lead to some pretty interesting choices on the shelf and in your cart. It can also lead to some understandable shooting anxiety. I mean, it’s awesome to score a 1000 rounds of something at a reasonable price these days, but it’s equally awesome to have confidence that your gun won’t blow up when you shoot it. Heck, who wants their $800 gun destroyed by a 28¢ round of 9mm from Rumizavadillia-Latvoniski. (Don’t Google. Not a real country).

We are all familiar with our traditional brands, Winchester, Blazer, CCI, Federal, PMC, etc., but we have been seeing a lot of unfamiliar ammo coming through the range on a daily basis. We’re going to highlight them on the site and provide as much background as we can on these brands

Some of these brands are more familiar than others so if you have experience with a brand please speak up in the comments. We appreciate the input. If you run across a brand you’ve never heard of and would like deeper info on it shoot us an email and we’ll get on it.

ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi

ZSR is a brand manufactured in Turkey. There are a lot of Turkish brand ammo available now in the U.S. and we’ve been seeing more than a few shooters come in with ZSR. Outside or operator error and firearm malfunctions we haven’t noticed any issues.

They are primarily a supplier to Turkish defense but sell to the civilian market. They are ISO, TSE, CE C.I.P, SEVESO rated but more importantly, NATO compliant which means their military ammo is NATO worthy. That bodes well for 9mm, 556 and our AK brethren.

They manufacture in brass and steel case for the consumer market and a large variety of shotgun loads in buck, birdshot and slugs though we haven’t seen any shooters come through with those. It could be they are focus selling them to the European market.

From the ZSR website:

“ZSR A.Ş. is an organization acting with a mission to develop the defense industry in Turkey, leading its stakeholders in the industry and reached up to the highest level in terms of authority, quality and effectiveness. Having conscious of innovative service, we undertake responsibility to respond to ammunition and explosive requirements in Turkey and worldwide and, consequently, aim at providing technology-based service with our experienced personnel and improving customer satisfaction constantly.

I was put 50 rounds of 9mm 115gr FMJ through my Sig P365XL and M&P 2.0 and it functioned flawlessly. Not smoky and delivered the punch expected with 115 range ammo. Hope to get my hands on a box of their 124gr 9mm Parabellum in the near future to test.

ZSR - Definitely a good value. Good Freedom Beans.
